How do dubia roaches breed?

If you have your own dubia roach bin, from time to time you may see an adult male dubia and an adult female dubia “stuck” together. These dubia are in fact mating. At the bottom of their abdomen the male will split their exoskeleton and insert their reproductive organs into the end of the female's abdomen. They can stay in this position for minutes or over an hour.

After fertilization, the female will carry an ootheca for 6-8 weeks until the babies are ready to emerge.
