When fishing for catfish, There are several different baits an angler can use. Baits such as corn and hot dogs are commonly used in the northern states. Worms are best used for cat fishing when a storm is approaching or has just past. This is because worms react to the climate and weather changes.
Catfish also sense the worms in the water and commonly feed on them because they are bottom feeders. Right after a rain storm is perfect time to use worms to catfish.
When walleye fishing in swift water such as by a dam or open river, in the summer months when the water gets warmer, the walleye gravitate to the bottom of the rivers and lakes where the temperature is cooler. In this situation it is perfect for using a worm harness and a nice long worm. Hook a fresh worm onto a worm harness and leave some of the tail unhooked. When using a worm harness the angler wants to let the tail flow freely in water to attract the fishes eye. With a bottom bouncer, the bait should stay just above the bottom of the river or lake. If a bottom bouncer is not available in your tackle box a three way swivel will work as well.
#1: When using a scented bait, always have clean hands. Fish have a strong sense of smell. Any unnatural scents will deter a fish from your worm and can cost you fish. Simple ways to remove your scent is to rub your hands in dirt or grass.
#2: Using the correct line can create a world of differences in your fishing adventure. Often anglers use line that is over sized and fish can see it. When fishing with worms light line is highly recommended because as the fish pick away at your worm, they will move the line. with heavier line you will not notice and the fish will steal your bait.
